Declaring that there was no need to expunge the remarks, the Speaker gave his ruling, triggering further escalation as DMK members upped the ante, raised slogans, and brought the proceedings to a standstill by sitting in the well of the House.The Speaker urged the protesting members to return to their seats, offering to allow DMK whip E V Velu and deputy leader of the opposition K N Nehru to speak on the issue.

He also cautioned Kallakurichi MLA Vasantham K Karthikeyan against approaching the chair. Marshals subsequently entered the House and physically removed the protesting MLAs, carrying out members including Kutty (Valparai), Durai Chandrasekaran (Thiruvaiyaru), Vasantham Karthikeyan (Rishivandiyam) and a few more who refused to budge from the well.
